How you feel is determined by how you think you feel.
If you think you're happy, you will be;
if you expect good things to happen, they will.
How often we're overcome by the despair of the world! It is safe to say that, in the last fifty years, our general view of events has gone from "sunny side up" to full-blown negativity. How often did positive stories run on the news fifty years ago? And now? Our media revolves around and thrives on reports of crime, hatred, disaster, and gossip. And society feeds off this overwhelming bombardment of depressing news.
As children of God, we are called to a higher purpose. We are called to separate ourselves from the things of this world; we are called to emit the Light we hold in our hearts to a dark world that is so desperately seeking a Savior. More importantly, and in direct context to my daily calendar quote, we, as Christians, are called to be positive thinkers.
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things.
9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
May no one ever again accuse us of being negative. May we consciously decide to be positive, happy, and uplifting. There is power in positive thinking! Even God says so!
